    Summer Cleaning Tips For Your Home

    The spring season is typically associated with deep spring cleaning, but that doesn’t mean you can forget your household chores when the weather heats up. High temperatures, humidity, mould, and rain can take a toll on your home, which is why keeping clean is so important in the summer!

    However, the summer season can bring challenges in maintaining a clean and healthy home. We would bet that nobody prefers scrubbing the floor or cleaning the bathroom instead of lounging at the beach and enjoying the warm weather.

    But don’t worry, we teamed up with regular cleaning Wimbledon to create a list of handy summer cleaning tips and tricks to help you stay on top of your summertime chores so you can enjoy the summer days.

    Prevent Mildew and Mold Growth

    Summer temperatures and humid air allow mould and mildew to grow faster, especially in areas of your home that are already humid, such as the bathroom and laundry room. Keep mould and mildew out by leaving the washing machine door open when it is not in use. This will dry out the machine and lower the humidity level so the fungus does not grow.

    Bathroom mildew is also unpleasant! Be certain you keep your exhaust fan running or window open while you shower and leave the bathroom door open when you’re done. It can help slow the spread of mildew. Also, use microfiber cloths to wipe down shower doors and walls after each use to prevent the fungus.

    Another tip is to buy a new summer shower curtain liner and pretreat it by running it through the washing machine on a cold, gentle setting with ¼ cup of white vinegar. This can prevent mould and mildew from forming on the shower liner during the warm, more humid months.

    Manage Trash Cans

    Trash cans tend to carry bad smells if they’re not cleaned out regularly. But, they can be especially stinky during the summer months This is because heat and humidity create the perfect environment for bacteria growth, which is what creates the unpleasant trash smell. The problem becomes even worse when the air captures these bad smells and keeps them around for longer than usual. Plan on emptying the trash more frequently than you do in colder months. We also recommend:

    • Do a quick wash once a week by adding a few drops of dish soap, a 1/4 cup of bleach, and a few cups of water. Rinse, and use paper towels for drying.;
    • Once dry, sprinkle a bit of baking soda at the bottom of the trash can to help keep odours at bay.;
    • If you’re using plastic trash bags, wad up some old newspaper at the bottom to help absorb odours and prevent leaking from liquid garbage.

    Clean and Flip the Mattress

    You should flip and cleaned your mattress twice per year and the summertime is the right time to do it. Flipping helps remove dust mites, dirt, dead skin, and other debris.

    Take all the bedding off of the mattress and then vacuum the top surface. Then, flip it over and do the same thing on the other side. We suggest leaving the mattress in this flipped position for 6 months so you’re not overusing one side of it.

    Clean the air conditioner’s filter

    An air conditioner that is clogged up with dust and dirt won’t function properly. It could even break and leave you seriously uncomfortable in the summer heat. Clean the filter with warm soapy water or a vacuum cleaner.

    Wash the windows

    Take advantage of the favourable weather and clean your windows. If you haven’t cleaned them in a while, use a sponge, soapy water and prepare for some scrubbing to get rid of dirt.

    These easy summer cleaning tips will keep your house fresh and tidy, without making you spend your whole summer cleaning. Just a few minor adjustments to your regular routine will maximize your cleaning results, with minimal effort so you can get back to enjoying every magical moment of the summer season.
